OBJECTIVES

The Academic Master Level Course has as its main objectives to build theoretical and scientific competencies in the area of Clinical Psychology and Culture. Upon concluding this Course, the student will receive the title of Master in Clinical Psychology and  Culture.

REQUISITS TO OBTEIN THE DEGREE OF MASTER IN PSYCHOLOGY

In order to obtein  the diploma of Master in Psychology the student must:

1. Receive a minimum of  24 (twenty four) credits in disciplins;

2. Have his/her Master Thesis defended at a public session and approved by a Thesis  Commitee;

3. The Master student must complet his Academic Master Course, including the Master Thesis, in a minimom of two (2) and maximon  of four (4) regular academic semesters.

CURRICULAR STRUCTURE OF THE GRADUATE COURSES IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY AND CULTURE

OBJECTIVES

The Doctorate/PhD Program has as its main objetive to strengten competencies in the areas of scientific and theoretical elaboration in order to develop and produce  knowledge in the area of  Clinical Psychology and Culture. Upon  concluding this  Course, the student will be award the degree of  Doctor in Clinical Psychology and  Culture.

REQUISITS TO OBTEIN THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR IN PSYCHOLOGY

In order to obtein the degree of Doctor in Psychology the student must:

1. Receive a minimum of 36 (thirty  six) credits in disciplins;

2. Be aproved in the  Qualifyng Exam

3. Submit and have na article acepted for publication in a scientific jornal with an editorial board. The doctoral candidate must show proof of the acceptance of the publication in order to  be able to set the date of the Doctoral Defense.

4. Present his doctoral dissertation at a public session and have it approved by the doctoral committee

The Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology and Culture (PPG PsiCC), was approved by CAPES – Coordenação de Apoio ao Pessoal de Ensino Superior (Directory of Support for Professionals of Undergraduate and Graduate Schools – a branch of the Ministry of Education, Brazil,  in 2005. The Program originated from the Area of  Clinical Psychology of the former Graduate Program in Psychology of the Institute of Psychology of the University of Brasília - Universidade de Brasília, UnB. The area had attracted, since the decade of 1990, many students from other cites of the central region of Brazil as well as from other regions of the country, and even from other countries of  Latin America. The PPG PsiCC has inherited this tradition and occupies a central position among the Graduate Programs in Clinical Psychology in the Center-West Region. It also excels in the production of knowledge in this area of studies at the  national level.

The Program has an on going commitment to expand its role in the area of Continued Education for professionals that work in the region. The Program ofers  Cursos de Pós-Graduação Lato Sensu Especialization Courses with the objective to prepare professionals and specialists in especific areas of clinical knowledge. These courses include both teoretical and  practical activities. These curses are ministered following specific regulation from the Ministry of Education of Brazil. The  “Especialization Course in Psychoanalitic Theory” has been offered on a regular basis. The PPG PsiCC has also ofered in partnership with the  Department of Health of the Federal District - GDF the course “Especialization in Mental Health” geared towards professionals of the mental health services. Both iniciatives had the intention to assertain the difusion of knowledge generated by the research and extension programs generated by faculty members in partnership with both underdgraduate and graduate students as well as with colleagues from other Universities and Research Centers. It offers, therefore, an important contribution in the area of continued education for  professionals of the area of  psychology and related fields.

The group has excerted an important social role, due to the continued articulation between its research and the development of  Extension Projects that are geared towards vulnerable social groups. Examples of these projects are: “Psychoanalises and Pediatrics: An Experience inside the Hospital”, “Early Intervention in Psicotic Crisis Program”, “Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention in the University Context”, “Construction of a Methodology of Multifamilies Group”, “Intervention Program for Women undergoing Marital and Domestic Violence”, “Mental Health of the Elderly and their Families”, “Eating Disorders and Narcisistic Psychopatologies”.

The Faculty of PPG PsiCC actively participates in  Research Groups of the  Research Directory of the National Council of Scienfic and Technological  Development – CNPq.  Professors of the Program act as coordenators of 6 (six) of these Research Groups: “Mental Health, Crisis Intervention, and Suicide Prevention”, “Psychoanalisis and Subjectivation Processes: Drive, Art and Culture”, “Complex Systems: Couples, Families, Groups and Comunities”, “Psychotherapy: Psychopathology, Epistemology and Language”, “Drugs, Adolescents and Complexity”, “Subjectivation, Clinic  and Culture”, “Mental Health, Treatment and Culture”

Several national and international events have been organized by professors of the Program: Fourth Brazilian Conference of Family Therapy - IV Congresso Brasileiro de Terapia Familiar and Second Latin-American Encounter of Family Therapy - II Encontro Latino-Americano de Terapia Familiar - 2000; VI International Conference on Philosophy, Psychiatry and Psychology - VI Conferência Internacional sobre Filosofia, Psiquiatria e Psicologia, 2003; Seminars on Psychopathology and Language - Jornadas sobre Psicopatologia e Linguagem - from 2001 to 2005; Cicle of Debates on Cinema and Contemporary Themes - Ciclo de Debates sobre Cinema e Temas Contemporâneos, 2004; Systemic Practices in Crises Situations: Building Strategies for Transformative Actions - Práticas Sistêmicas em Situações de Crise: Construindo Caminhos para Ações Transformativas, 2004; I Internacional Conference on Adolescence and Violence: clinical, judicial and educational perspectives - I Congresso Internacional Adolescência e Violência: perspectivas clínica, jurídica e educacional; III Seminar on Health Issues of the Adolescent in Conflict with the Law - III Seminário de Saúde do Adolescente em Conflito com a Lei; III Seminar on Adolescence, Clinic and Culture – III Seminário em Adolescência, Clínica e Cultura 2010; VI Conference of the Brazilian Association of Rorschach and Projective Methods -VI Congresso da Associação Brasileira de Rorschach e Métodos Projetivos, 2013).

The Program has organized academic-cientific events with the objetive of producing/generating reflexions and dialogues in order to build interfaces between Clinical Psychology and Culture. Such dialogues have involved professors of the program as well as researchers/professors  of other academic institutions of the country.  In the year of 2007 the group organized the I Seminar on Clinic and Culture -  I Jornada Clinica e Cultura in order to celebrate the first year of existence of the Program. In the year 2011 the group organized the II Seminar on Clinic and Culture - II Jornada em Clínica e Cultura to celebrate the 5 years of the existence of PPGPsiCC. In this  context of celebration the book “Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology and Culture” was edited. In 2012, the Program organized the III Seminar on Clinical Psychology and Culture: Interdisciplinary Dialogues - III Jornada Psicologia Clínica e Cultura: Diálogos Interdisciplinares. The Seminar program focused on contemporary problems and the challenges they pose for designing research projects focused on an interdisciplinary dialogue that may allow us to build conexions between distinct and sometimes controvertial psychological and social phenomena.
